REDDING, California - Crews battling a wildfire in Northern California that destroyed 30 homes and damaged 30 others are expecting more favorable weather to help.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman Mike Witesman says temperatures should be cooler and humidity higher Wednesday around the Clover Fire in Shasta County. Officials also are expecting winds to die down.

The fire grew by more than 250 acres overnight, but containment stayed at 40 percent. It has now burned nearly 11 square miles.

Witesman says it's still threatening 300 homes around the community of Happy Valley. Evacuations remain in place, though at least some of them may be lifted as soon as Wednesday.

Meanwhile, containment of a fire burning in a San Francisco Bay Area wilderness park increased to 70 percent overnight.
