CANTON, Ohio -- The power is back on in Canton after a blown transformer caused a blackout affecting almost 3,000 homes and businesses early Thursday morning.
Canton Police confirm the blackout was reported around 1 a.m. in the area of Canton's McKinley High School on 17th Street NW.
For most of the night, about 2,900 AEP customers, including homes and businesses, were without power.
Electricity was restored before 5:30 a.m.

A mobile transformer went out of service at an AEP station in Canton, causing the blackout, said AEP spokesperson Terri Flora.
