  • CLEVELAND -- Each year in the U.S., roughly nine out of 10 flu-related deaths and six out of 10 flu-related hospital stays occur in people 65 and older. However, only an estimated 68 percent of Ohio adults 65 and older were vaccinated during the 2011-2012 flu season.

The Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging, the City of Cleveland Departments of Aging and Public Health and the National Council on Aging (NCOA) are hosting a Flu + You education event and vaccination clinic to educate older adults about their increased risk of complications from influenza (commonly known as "the flu") and the importance of vaccination, with a goal of improving flu immunization rates in Cuyahoga County.

Health care providers will be available to answer questions about the flu and vaccine options, as well as provide flu shots to adults 65 years of age and older. Flu vaccines are a covered Medicare Part B benefit, with no co-pay.
