NEWBURGH HEIGHTS -- A Westlake man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after police say he led officers on a chase that began on I-77.

Police say officers in Newburgh Heights tried to pull the driver over on I-77 northbound but the driver took off instead. The driver exited on Broadway Avenue and then got right back on I-77 headed  south.

The driver exited on Rockside Road and continued eastbound through Independence and Garfield Heights. Newburgh Heights terminated the pursuit at this point.

A short time later, another police agency located the suspected headed back westbound across Rockside Road and police from various cities assisted in the pursuit.

The chase ended in Seven Hills where the suspect ditched the car and attempted to run but was taken into custody.

Two Independence police cruisers were damaged in the chase. No injuries were reported.
