CHAGRIN FALLS --  Chagrin Falls fire officials are now investigating what caused an overnight fire at Jekyll's Kitchen on River Street.

Several fire departments arrived just after midnight to heavy flames and smoke.

Nobody was inside the restaurant, which had recently closed for the night.

According to Jekyll's website, the restaurant closes at 10 p.m. and the bar closes shortly thereafter.

Chagrin Falls Assistant Fire Chief Mark Vedder says they had several challenges- the first being that power was still running through electrical lines above the restaurant.

Crews had to wait until the power was turned off before they could go into the building.

At that point, the flames were so intense, crews had to temporarily leave the building due to safety reasons.

Vedder says the age and structure of the building also posed a challenge.

One of the biggest draws of Jekyll's is the stunning view of Chagrin Falls, but it was also one of the biggest drawbacks to fire officials.

Since the restaurant overlooks the river, fire crews could only access three sides of the building instead of four.

After about five hours, fire crews had most of the fire out.

Vedder says at this point, the fire doesn't seem suspicious.

Channel 3 also asked about whether the restaurant's wood fire burning oven may have played a role.

Vedder told us they are looking into all possibilities.

Nobody was injured, and the fire was contained to the one building.

Jekyll's Kitchen was previously Blake's Seafood, which a fire also damaged years ago.
