AKRON --  An Ohio marathon expected to draw about 1,200 runners and thousands more spectators is up in the air because of the partial federal government shutdown.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports organizers of the Towpath Marathon expect to make a decision next Monday if the shutdown continues. The race site is at the Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) Valley National Park, which closed with other national parks Tuesday because of the budget impasse in Washington.

The marathon scheduled Oct. 13 draws runners from around the country.

Tim Donovan of the Cleveland-based Ohio Canal Corridor says uncertainty is causing logistical issues for runners planning to come to northeast Ohio. He says organizers would prefer not to scrub this year's race and could consider rescheduling it in a few weeks.
