STARK COUNTY -- A family dog is recovering after being shot trying to protect its family during a home invasion.
Deputies were called to a home in the 1400 block of 30th Street NE just before 2 a.m.
According to the Sheriff's Office, two or three unknown suspects had forced their way into the home and pointed a gun at the homeowner.
The homeowner's dog then attacked the suspects forcing them to run away. As they fled, the suspects shot at the dog injuring the animal.
The dog received treatment at a local animal hospital and is expected to survive.
No other injuries were reported.
