CLEVELAND -- This is the 7th year for Honor Flight Cleveland, an organization that's Flown about 2,700 veterans to Washington since it began.

This is the first trip they've made since the government shutdown has closed the memorials.

Honor Flight Cleveland president, Joe Benedict, says they've been issued certificates to get them through.

Memorials and monuments in Washington have been used as a prop in the blame game from democrats and republicans, but these veterans say it symbolizes much more.

The program runs from May until November each year, with about 25 vets on each flight.

Honor Flight also has departures from Iowa, Arizona and Texas today.
