On April 13, 2007, Shine went to Washington's home at 8108 Melrose in Cleveland and lit the house and car on fire.
He went back to her home the next day, April 14, and again lit the house and her car on fire. This time the fire spread and caused damage to three surrounding houses.
Three firemen suffered burns from fighting the fires.
Washington was staying with friends at 3658 East 143rd Street on April 18, 2007.
Shine came into the house and shot her five times, then drove off. Cleveland police pulled him over.
As police officers were walking toward his car, he shot himself in the chin.
Washington later died on May 23, 2007 from the gunshot wounds.
