Bay Village police officer bitten by dog

BAY VILLAGE -- Just before 4 a.m. Jan. 15, a resident in the 23000 block of Lake Road called police to report his neighbor's dog was out running around and barking.

Officers responded to the house in question but, because of the aggressiveness of the dog, were unable to get out of their police cruisers and advise the dog's owner of the complaint.

Just after 6 p.m., an officer returned to the house in an attempt to notify the dog owners of the complaint.

The dog was still outside running around in the yard.

As the officer knocked on the front door to advise the owners, the mixed breed dog jumped up and bit the officer on his forearm and thigh.

The owner immediately took the dog into the house. She was cited for a barking dog and dog-at-large.

She will face charges in Rocky River Municipal Court.

The officer sustained several puncture wounds on his arm and leg from the bites.
