CLEVELAND - On Friday’s We The People show, we will have two guests who will discuss The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio's work to end bias, bigotry and racism.
Diversity Center Board Member Lourdes Negron-McDaniel and Program Specialist Brian Anthony will join us during the show, which airs at noon Friday on WKYC, to tell us about an upcoming event, the Walk Rock & Run on May 6.
Each year, proceeds from the race go toward funding the Diversity Center’s school and youth programming throughout Northeast Ohio.
Established in 1927, The Diversity Center is dedicated to eliminating bias, bigotry and racism. Its youth programs help thousands of students learn how to become leaders and agents for positive change in their schools and communities, via conferences, retreats and camps.
WKYC is a sponsor of its annual family-friendly Walk Rock & Run, which features a 3-mile walk and also a 5-k run. Both races begin and end at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Plaza in downtown Cleveland.
There will be lots of activities for youngsters, plus free food, live entertainment and Mitchell’s Ice Cream to cool off. And the fun doesn’t stop there. Registered participants and volunteers of Walk, Rock & Run will gain free access to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center and USS COD Submarine Memorial on the day of the event.
Channel 3’s Russ Mitchell, a Diversity Center board member, will serve as the walk’s Grand Marshal for the sixth consecutive year. “I always leave the walk feeling happy and optimistic,” he said. “Peggy Fisher is a tireless champion of diversity and inclusion. Her passion to make Northeast Ohio a better place is wonderfully contagious.”
Event sponsors include Medical Mutual, Lincoln Electric, MetroHealth, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center and USS Cod. Media sponsors WKYC, and radio stations Z107.9 and 93.1 WZAK.
Runners can register for $25 before April 30. Walkers participate for free. For more details or to register, click here
