97-year-old woman injured during a carjacking on Cleveland's eastside

Cleveland Police are investigating the carjacking and assault of a 97-year-old woman Sunday morning.

Evelyn Davis, a retired teacher, was picking up a friend at 10714 Hathaway Ave. before heading to church when the incident occurred.

Leaving her car running, Davis briefly went inside the home to deliver a special Mother's Day meal.

During that time a thief attempted to steal Davis' car.

In an effort to stop the thief  Davis was injured in the struggle.

She was transported to University Hospitals with minor injuries, and is expected to make a full recovery.

“She’s witty, sharp. Her memory is good. She remembered her license plate number,” said community activist Khalid Samad, who visited Davis in the hospital.

Her car was found a short distance from where the incident occurred.

Police are still searching for suspects and no arrests have been made at this time.
