Akron man pleads guilty in connection with heroin overdose of 16-year-old

AKRON - According to the Summit County Prosecutor's Office, a fourth person has pled guilty in connection with a 16-year-old's heroin overdose death in April.

Donald Callaghan, 59, from Akron, pled guilty to possession of heroin, a fifth degree felony.

On August 31, three others pled guilty also in connection with 16-year-old Andrew Frye's death.

Brenda Frye, Heather Frye, and Jessica Irons pled guilty to various charges in the 16-year-old's death, including involuntary manslaughter.

Sixteen-year-old Andrew Frye was found dead in a hotel room in Green on April 6.

Summit County's Medical Examiner determined Andrew Frye died from injecting heroin.

Investigators found his mother, Heather Frye, his grandmother, Brenda Frye, and his mom's friend Jessica Irons were all in the hotel room before Andrew's death.

In the investigation, authorities found the heroin Andrew used was obtained by Brenda Frye, from her boyfriend Donald Callaghan.

Summit County Common Pleas Judge Lynne Callahan is scheduled to sentence Callaghan on October 26.
