Barberton | Brothers in court as 3 victims are laid to rest

BARBERTON -- Brothers accused in a New Year's Eve home invasion that led to the deaths of three people were in court Wednesday via video as family and friends prepare to lay the victims to rest.

Cases for Michael Hendon, 22, and Eric Hendon, 30, both of Akron, were continued in Barberton Municipal Court. They continue to be held in the Summit County Jail on bonds of $10 million each. Both face three counts of aggravated murder.

Police say their investigation has revealed that Eric and Michael Hendon went to a home on Seventh Street to rob the residence of drugs and money.

Ashley Carpenter, 18, and her brother David Kohler-Carpenter, 14, both died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Their father, John Kohler, died several days later at the hospital.

His girlfriend, Ronda Blankenship, was also hurt. Her condition was not available Wednesday.

Visitation for Ashley Carpenter and David Kohler-Carpenter is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by funeral services at 7 at Apostolic Church, 1717 Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Barberton, according to their obituary.

Visitation for John Kohler is 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, followed by funeral services at 7 at Victory Chapel, 32 West Bellisle drive, Akron.
