Fmr. sheriff's captain pleads 'not guilty' in theft case

CLEVELAND -- A former Cuyahoga County Sheriff's captain pleaded "not guilty" Tuesday to theft and tampering charges while working for the department.

Michael Jackson, 44, of Parma, was arraigned on 12 charges, including grand theft, theft in office and tampering with records.

The 23-year department veteran is accused of stealing about $50,000 from the evidence room. Jackson ran the narcotics division, which seizes drugs and money.

His $10,000 personal bond was continued at the hearing.

Jackson is next expected in court on February 11.
