Jury finds driver guilty of killing Geauga County man

CLEVELAND -- A Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court jury has convicted Charles Dukes, 60, of Cleveland, of aggravated vehicular homicide, a third-degree felony, and driving under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Common Pleas Judge Deena Calabrese set sentencing for Feb. 13.

The fatal accident happened at 5:55 a.m. Jan. 4 at E. 155th Street and Harvard Avenue.

Police say Dukes was driving a Dodge Caravan eastbound on Harvard Avenue and struck Thomas M. Thomas's Kia Spectra as he was pulling out of a parking lot and attempting to make a left turn onto Harvard.

Thomas, 70, of Bainbridge Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dukes was also driving without his Caravan's headlights on.
