CLEVELAND -- Childhood hunger is a crisis in Ohio, with nearly 26 percent of children "food insecure" or going hungry.
The Catholic Diocese just opened over 50 free summer food programs. They are funded through the USDA and last year 4,200 meals were served a day.
Nearly half of Ohio school children qualify for free or reduced school lunches, but only about 10 percent are served during the summer.
National Hunger Hotline at 1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-8-HAMBRE. By calling this toll free number, you will be given information on where you can find summer sites in your area, as well as additional food assistance information.
