CLEVELAND -- Snow day? Nah. How about sweaty day...
Nearly two dozen Cleveland schools are closed Thursday due to the sweltering summer heat.
The following Cleveland schools are closed:
- Bard High School Early College
- Benjamin Franklin
- Charles Eliot
- Charles Mooney
- Facing History New Tech
- Garrett Morgan
- Louis Agassiz
- Michael R White
- New Tech West
- Newton D. Baker
- O H Perry
- Patrick Henry
- Valley View Boys Leadership Academy
- Whitney Young
- Wilbur Wright
- William Cullen Bryant
School officials say the decision to close these schools was made using samples of internal temperatures taken between 4-4:30 a.m. after building windows had been opened with fans running.
"Temperatures inside several buildings were already in the high 80s," according to a press release. "Those temperatures, combined with the high relative humidity, means that the heat index in these buildings was already in the extreme caution stage and very near the danger stage."
All these schools are scheduled to reopen Friday.
