Breastfeeding is at the center of a custody battle involving HGTV's 'Rehab Addict' star Nicole Curtis.
Her ex says Curtis is continuing to breastfeed their 2 1/2 year old son as a way to prevent Dad from getting time with his son.
But what do the experts say about how long moms should breastfeed?
The health benefits of breastfeeding are vast and well documented. And the practice is strongly encouraged by health professionals to help mom and baby bond and for baby to get the best nutrition possible.
But how long should mom breastfeed baby? The answer may surprise you.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months followed by continued breast feeding for a year or longer as mutually desired by mother and child.
In other words, there is no set in stone end date.
The World Health Organization agrees that it should be the exclusive way of feeding baby for the first six months, but they suggest up to two years and beyond.
Bottom line, it's up to mom to decide when it's time to stop.
