Resources available to parents of children with autism

Autism Speaks encourages water safety

Northeast Ohio has several resources available to parents of children with autism. Milestones Autism Resources is the gateway to much needed help and research and is easily accessed through their website.

The Organization for Autism Research just published its "Guide to Safety" that is free and parents can download it at ThinkAutismSafety.org

Autism Speaks is another resource. They offer a scholarship program to aquatic centers like the YMCA of Greater Cleveland to help parents pay for swim lessons for their children. Learn more at AutismSpeaks.org

Water safety is critical because children with autism are often drawn to water. Of those under 14 with autism, 50 percent are prone to wander. Of those cases that end in fatalities, 91 percent were drownings.
