Girl, 12, critical after being hit by minivan outside school

AUBURN, Wash. – A 12-year-old girl was airlifted after the sheriff's office said a minivan hit her near Camelot Elementary School in Auburn Wednesday morning.

Harborview Medical Center said the girl was in critical condition. South King County Fire and Rescue says the girl has a "closed head injury."

The King County Sheriff's Office says the girl was not in the crosswalk when she was hit.

The driver was a teen headed to a nearby high school. Speed and alcohol have both been ruled out as factors in the crash.

Just a few feet behind where that happened, there was another collision near a crosswalk where a van appeared to be rear-ended by a car.

Camelot Elementary School is part of the Federal Way School District.
