12-year-old tips off police after man approaches her on Facebook

MENTOR -- A 30-year-old Mentor man has been charged with importuning after police searched his home.

A judge has set bond for Troy P. Slapnicker at $100,000. Agents with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) seized computer equipment from his house when they searched it on February 11. Police say additional charges may be filed after the equipment is forensically examined.

Police say in January, a 12-year-old girl alerted them after a Facebook user asked her for inappropriate pictures of herself. The user went by the name on Facebook as "Zeon Zak."

An ICAC investigator then posed as a 14-year-old girl online and communicated with "Zeon Zak." Further investigation identified "Zeon Zak" as Slapnicker.

Other police agencies around northeast Ohio have also received calls about the "Zeon Zak" profile sending pornographic material to juveniles and making sexual remarks.

Police encourage parents to speak with their children about the dangers of communicating with strangers online. If you have information about "Zeon Zak" contacting your child, please contact the Mentor Police Department Detective Bureau at 440-974-5760.
