Akron convenience store owner pistol-whipped, shot with own gun

AKRON -- Police here say that, near midnight Tuesday, a man armed with two knives came into the Pioneer Market at 308 Pioneer Street and tried to rob the store.

The owner then grabbed a handgun from behind the counter and the man grabbed it away from him and began pistol-whipping him.

When the owner tried to run out of the store, the man shot him in the face and ran out of the store.

Police say the owner was taken to Akron City Hospital where his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Police describe the suspect as 20-29 years old, standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 135 – 145 pounds, with a thin build wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt and carrying a black backpack with a white Adidas Logo.
