Akron man murdered while answering door identified

AKRON -- When a 36-year-old man went to answer his front door early Friday morning, authorities say he was fatally shot by an unknown person.

It happened around 1:15 a.m. on Wesley Avenue in Akron.

The victim, Morris Gaffney, 36, of Akron, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:29 a.m.

Detectives say a motive for the shooting has not been determined.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office says Gaffney died from a gunshot wound to the neck.
