Akron woman pleads guilty to killing boyfriend

AKRON, OHIO - Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh has confirmed that Bernetta Vickers, 41, of  Akron, pleaded guilty to shooting her live-in boyfriend to death.

Vickers pleaded guilty to the following charges:
• Manslaughter with a gun specification
• Tampering with evidence

On May 30, 2015, Akron Police responded to the Akron home shared by Vickers and Dontay Dudley, 33, after Vickers called 9-1-1.

Investigators found Dudley slumped over and shot in the head, according to a news release.

It was later discovered that Vickers moved the gun and hid the shell casing, according to Akron Police.

Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Lynne Callahan is scheduled to sentence Vickers at 1 p.m. Dec. 14, 2016.
