Help Akron RubberDucks name new mascot

AKRON -- Along with a name change, the RubberDucks, formerly known as the Aeros, are unveiling a new duck mascot this season.

To get fans involved, the RubberDucks have launched a contest to name the mascot.

Now through Tuesday, March 25, fans can submit names by sending an e-mail to with their suggestion in the subject line. Be sure to include your name, address and phone number in the body of the message.

An online vote with the top five names (to be determined by RubberDucks officials), will run from March 27 through April 4.

The winning name will be revealed on Monday, April 7 -- just days before the mascot makes its first official appearance on opening night at Canal Park on April 10.

The winner of the contest, who will be given tickets to opening night, will be selected at random from those fans who submitted the winning name.

"We think the new duck mascot will make a great addition to our family of performers, which includes Orbit the space cat and Homer the inflatable polka dotted pigeon," says RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander.

In late October, the Aeros announced their new team name would be the RubberDucks as a way to honor the history of Akron.

2014 marks the 18th season at Canal Park.
