Public asked for help after driver hits 2 in Akron

AKRON -- The Summit County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help to find the driver that struck two people in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant near the University of Akron.

The injured include a Summit County Sheriff's deputy and a University of Akron student.

Police say the incident happened in the early morning hours of April 13 at the McDonald's near the campus on East Exchange Street. Both male victims were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Both survived.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a mid-sized SUV that was bronze or gold to "grayish" in color.

Security video from the restaurant show people in the parking lot talking to the SUV's driver shortly before the two victims were hit.

Summit County Crimestoppers is offering a reward up to $2,000 to anyone providing information that leads to an arrest and indictment of those involved.
