Scrapper hits Akron home after 7 killed in fire

AKRON, Ohio -- Just hours after five children and their parents died in a fire Monday, a man was spotted taking scrap metal from the property.

The unidentified man was seen rummaging through items on the Fultz Street home’s front porch and surrounding property before putting some pieces of metal into a vehicle.

The man then drove away.

WKYC crews witnessed the man at the scene who declared he was there to find scrap.

We’ve submitted a photo of the man to Akron police and have asked if he could face any legal repercussion, but have not yet received a response.

Police tape had already been removed from the scene when the scrapper arrived.

Fire investigators, meanwhile, are working to determine the cause of the deadly blaze. While arson has not been ruled out, fire department sources tell WKYC it may have sparked by hot charcoal left over from a Mother’s Day barbecue.
