Tallmadge man sent to prison for sex crimes

AKRON -- Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh confirmed that Judge Tammy O'Brien sentenced Eric J. Hartman, 37, of Tallmadge, to eight years in prison on Thursday.

He was also labeled a Tier III sex offender, which requires he register his address and place of employment every 90 days for the rest of his life.

Walsh says Hartman forced a female friend to open several credit cards, which he then maxed out. He also coerced the woman, who is developmentally delayed, to have sex with him.

While on house arrest for those crimes, Hartman became the subject of an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children task force. Hartman admitted to downloading child pornography over the course of two months.

On Jan. 22, Hartman pleaded guilty to six counts of pandering sexually oriented material; two counts of sexual battery; and extortion.
