AKRON - Hundreds of items of memorabilia at Quaker Square in Akron will be up for auction later this month.
The University of Akron purchased Quaker Square in 2007 and has decided to find a new home for a collection of trains, railroad memorabilia, and a miniature handmade circus display created by Akron rubber worker Robert Harned in the 1920s.
Some of the items sitting inside the now-closed museum are said to be more than a century old. Many of the items, including the collection of trains and railroad memorabilia, was featured at the former Railways of America Museum in Cuyahoga Falls before it moved to Quaker Square in the mid-1970s.
Becky Pete has worked at Quaker Station for more than 30 years. The auction is a bittersweet moment for Pete who said her brother helped to put the general store together.
The auction is scheduled for May 20 at 11 a.m.
