Ark. state senator proposes UA budget cut after players kneel during nat'l anthem

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) -- Arkansas state senator Alan Clark has suggested placing a hold on the University of Arkansas' state funding.  The hold would have to be approved by the legislature in the next session.

The Republican from Lonsdale also stated that he would introduce an amendment that would cut funding to the university equal to the amount that is budgeted for the women's basketball team.

On November 3, six members of the women's Arkansas basketball team kneeled during the national anthem at Bud Walton Arena.   Both Coach Jimmy Dykes and UA Athletic Director Jeff Long have issued statements supporting the players.

A video of the players kneeling has been seen over 6,300 on YouTube, which was orginally posted by the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Clark posted a lengthy Facebook post outlining why he is proposing the cuts.
