Ashtabula: Wife of judge pleads guilty to poisoning him

ASHTABULA -- The wife of Common Pleas Juvenile Probate Judge Charles Hague has pleaded guilty to one count of felonious assault; a second degree felony, according to a court official.

She was sentenced to two years in prison.

Last year, the state attorney general took over the case after the judge was rushed to the Cleveland Clinic in September for what turned out to be poisoning from antifreeze.

Visiting Judge Charles Brown heard the case because all the judges at the Ashtabula County Courthouse recused themselves from the case.

Carla Hague, a retired nurse who has been married to the judge for 45 years, originally pleaded not guilty and today's hearing was originally a pretrial hearing.

Judge Hague, 72, has since recovered and was in the courtroom during the hearing.
