Late-night crash kills driver

NEW LYME TOWNSHIP -- A 50-year-old Orwell man is dead following a late-night crash Sunday in Ashtabula County.

Authorities say it happened at 11:55 p.m. on state Route 46 near U.S. Route 6.

The man, who was driving a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, was traveling southbound when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway. The van then struck a ditch and a drainage culvert before overturning and colliding with a tree.

The driver, identified as Davd L. Lowery, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Authorities say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The accident remains under investigation.
