Officers seize drugs, cash, weapons at house of Ashtabula police shooting

New information in Ashtabula police-involved shooting

ASHTABULA - Authorities investigating a police-involved shooting at an Ashtabula house have seized drugs, weapons, and cash in their search.

Ashtabula Police executed a search warrant at the residence located at the 400 block of W. 38th Street and seized suspected illegal narcotics, $5,500 in cash, drug paraphernalia, a digital scale, and suspected illegal drug packaging. Three firearms and ammunition were found by agents from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, who are working the shooting incident. 

Police responded to a call of an intruder with a gun holding a female resident at gunpoint around 5:15 a.m. Friday morning. Three officers encountered two men involved in a struggle inside the home. One of the men had a gun.

When an officer ordered the man to drop the gun, police say he failed to comply. The officer fired a shot, striking the man with the gun. The man was taken to a hospital via helicopter. His condition is unknown.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave.
