Body found floating in Tuscarawas River identified

TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, OHIO - The body found in the Tuscarawas River was a New Philadelphia man who had been missing since Sept. 24.

The Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office and Tuscarawas County Coroner James Hubert  have positively and scientifically identified him as Diego Perez Hernandez (aka Benny Benavidez), 42, of New Philadelphia.

He was last seen leaving his home by family members and other residents of the home at approximately 1 p.m. Sept. 24.

The sheriif and the coroner say there were no signs of external trauma to the body.

The Stark County Coroner's Office has performed an autopsy and we will be awaiting results of toxicology reports in an effort to determine what may have caused Hernandez's death, according to the sheriff's press release.
