Blood transport vehicle stolen from MetroHealth Medical Center

April 12, 2017: Authorities say a woman was asleep in the back seat when the vehicle was stolen. The blood will now have to be destroyed instead of donated.

CLEVELAND -- A vehicle that was transporting 25 pints of blood was stolen overnight from MetroHealth Medical Center.

Authorities say the vehicle was taken around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday when the driver got out and went inside the hospital.

A woman was asleep in the back seat when the vehicle was stolen.

Police say the suspect drove to Willowick where the woman in the back seat convinced him to stop. He got out of the vehicle and walked away.

The woman then drove the vehicle back to meet police.

She was unharmed, and nothing was stolen from the vehicle.

Cleveland police say the suspect was found sleeping behind the house where he exited the vehicle.

We’re told the blood will now have to be destroyed rather than donated.
