Driver arrested for hitting, seriously injuring pedestrian

CLEVELAND - A driver was arrested for striking and seriously injuring a female pedestrian on Cleveland's east side Thursday.

Police say a 27-year-old woman had the right of way as she crossed Superior Avenue at E. 115th Street. As the woman was in the crosswalk, a driver, identified as 55-year-old Randy McDowell, failed to stop his Ford F-150 at a red light, striking the woman.

The woman was taken to University Hospitals with serious injuries.

McDowell was arrested at the scene on charges of aggravated vehicular assault and OVI.
