CLEVELAND -- Police were alerted of a situation involving a boy with a gun Saturday by a 911 caller who witnessed the child outside the Cudell Recreation Center.
"It's probably fake, but he's like pointing it at everybody," the man told police dispatchers.
That boy was 12-year-old Tamir Rice.
"The guy keeps pulling it out," the 911 caller continues. "It's probably fake, but you know what, he's scaring the (expletive) out of (inaudible). ... He's sitting on the swing right now, but he keeps pulling it in and out of his pants and pointing it at people. Probably a juvenile, you know? … I don't know if it's real or not, you know?"
When police responded, to the scene, they ordered Tamir to put his hands up. Instead, police say Tamir reached for the gun at his waist. One officer opened fire and shot Tamir in the abdomen.
Tamir died Sunday from his injuries.
The gun Tamir had possession of was an "airsoft" replica weapon with the orange tip missing.
