Man shot on I-90 dies, police search for shooter

Man dies after Shoreway shooting

CLEVELAND - A 24-year-old man is dead after being shot in the chest while driving on I-90 westbound near Dead Man's Curve.

The shooting happened around 4:45 p.m. on Friday.

Jamel P. Greene, 24, and  a 26-year-old passenger were traveling down the freeway, when another car pulled up along side them. Someone inside the second car began firing into the victim's vehicle.

Greene was hit by a bullet, and his vehicle then veered off the road, striking a utility pole and fencing near Burke Lakefront Airport.

Both Greene and the other passenger were taken by EMS to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Just after 7 p.m. Friday, Cleveland Police announced that Greene man had died from the gunshot wound to the chest.

His passenger was uninjured.

A witness told Cleveland Police and WKYC that, just before 4:45 p.m., Friday, she saw two vehicles on the Shoreway westbound just before Dead Man's Curve.

She said a person in a red Jeep with temporary license tags stuck his arm out of the window of the Jeep and fired several shots at a person in a grey sedan.

She said the sedan then plowed through a light pole and across the access road and came to rest on a fence at Burke Lakefront Airport on the North Marginal.

The witness says she saw at least one man taken away by ambulance from the sedan, while the Jeep drove away.
