Woman charged with leaving children at shelter

CLEVELAND – A woman has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor child endangering in connection with two children being left at a downtown Cleveland shelter.

Police located the woman they identified as Alisha Houston in Worthington, Ohio.

Tips from the public helped police identify Houston, 31, after surveillance video and photos were released.

Police say the woman and the children went to the Salvation Army's Harbor Light shelter on Prospect Avenue around 2 a.m. on May 28 and were given a room. Several hours later, shelter workers went to the room and found only the children.

The children, a 1-year-old boy and a 3-week old infant girl, were taken to Rainbow for evaluation. They are currently in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services.

It's unknown why the children were abandoned.
