CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Police say the woman wanted in connection with leaving her two children at a shelter has been found.
Officials say the woman, identified as Alisha Houston, was found in Worthington, Ohio and will be brought back to Cleveland tomorrow. She is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail.
Police say tips from the public led them to identify the woman as Alisha Houston, 31, of Cleveland. According to police, the warrant for her arrest was issued due to the children being left unattended and due to injuries of one child discovered during medical examination.
Thursday afternoon, stills from a surveillance camera and a snippet of surveillance video were released of the woman. An image of the two children was also handed out.
Police say the woman and the children went to the Salvation Army's Harbor Light shelter on Prospect Avenue around 2 a.m. on May 28 and were given a room. At around 9 a.m., shelter workers went to the room and found only the children.
The children, a 1-year-old boy and a 3-week old infant girl, were taken to Rainbow for evaluation. They are currently in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services.
It's unknown why the children were abandoned.
