CLEVELAND -- The cost of a jail kitchen project in Cleveland has risen another half-million dollars.
The county council approved the additional spending, which will bring the Cuyahoga County project cost to $6.9 million.
County administrators blame the overrun on leaks recently discovered in the building foundation and wiring found in the concrete slab.
The fix involved moving the wiring, drilling holes into the foundation and injecting grout to seal leaks.
According to the Northeast Ohio Media Group, the total cost is now more than $1 million over the $5.5 million bid that officials said was too expensive in 2010.
The kitchen would replace a 37-year-old facility plagued by aging equipment, slippery floors and limited storage.
