BEDFORD -- Chagrin Falls resident Christine Gregory pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges but entered no plea in the aggravated vehicular homicide charges in Bedford Municipal Court Friday afternoon.
She is scheduled to return for a status hearing/pretrial at 10 a.m. July 28 in Bedford Municipal Court..
She was arraigned before Magistrate Brian Downey just after 1 p.m. today.
He revoked her driving privileges until the case is over, he continued her $2,500 bond and gave her a court-appointed attorney -- Heather Gyekenyesi -- because she signed a statement saying she could not afford an attorney.
On Thursday afternoon, Chagrin Falls police charged resident Gregory, 62, with aggravated vehicular homicide (a third-degree felony), reckless operation and failure to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk following last Saturday's fatal traffic accident at the intersection of Washington and Franklin streets.
Eight-year-old Eli Sachar, of Arlington, VA., died at Hillcrest Hospital after the accident.
A memorial service for Eli will be held this Saturday at noon in Triangle Park, adjacent to the accident scene.
The aggravated vehicular homicide charge became a third-degree felony "for the reckless element..and for the fact that it was a Saturday afternoon when there were lots of people in the town," CFPD Lt. Amber Dacek said.
Dacek said Gregory turned herself in earlier Thursday afternoon and was released on $2,500 bond.
