North Royalton Church ruined after fire

A fundraiser has been created to help rebuild St. Matthew's Church in North Royalton.

The Greek Antiochian Orthodox church suffered significant damage after catching fire Saturday morning.

A congregation member tells WKYC the fire at Saint Matthew the Evangelist Church started around 9 a.m.

According to reports, Fr. Andrew Harmon, the church's priest was in the building and attempted to put the blaze out with a fire extinguisher before calling the fire department.

The fire was put out and the structure was saved, but the inside of the building is "a total loss," and will need to be rebuilt.

The exact cause of the fire is not yet known. Parish services will be held at Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church on W 14th St. in Cleveland in the meantime.
