Man charged for Parma standoff

PARMA - Police have arrested a man who was involved in a standoff at a Parma home last Friday.

According to police, Tommy Devon Dorsey, 27, of Cleveland, has been charged with aggravated burglary.

Dorsey was driving recklessly on Broadview Road Friday morning when he crashed his Toyota Avalon into a utility pole in front of St. Sergius Russian Orthodox Church at 6520 Broadview Road.

A male passenger was thrown from the car.

Meanwhile, Dorsey fled the scene to a house located next to the church. He was armed with a handgun.

Dorsey entered the home and encountered a woman inside. The woman, who was home alone, managed to flee the house and alert police officers who had arrived to the car crash nearby.

Officers surrounded the house and all nearby schools and daycares were placed on lockdown.

After 30 minutes, Dorsey emerged from the home and was taken into custody by SWAT officers. The gun was later recovered from inside the house.

The passenger thrown from the car was taken to MetroHealth and is expected to make a full recovery.

Dorsey faces additional charges.
