Man in Solon crash, shooting indicted on 16 counts

According to records in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, Matthew Ryan Desha, 29, of North Ridgeville was indicted today on 16 counts, ranging from aggravated murder and murder to felonious assault.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 14. He pleaded not guilty during a video arraignment in late August.

He remains in Cuyahoga County Jail on $1 million bond.

Solon Police say Desha failed to stop for a red light, crashing into a 53-year-old woman’s vehicle just before 7:30 a.m. Aug. 27.

Police say Desha then exited his vehicle with a rifle after it overturned several times before allegedly shooting the other driver, Deborah Pearl, 53, of Twinsburg.

Pearl later died at the hospital.

In June, the Youngstown Vindicator reported that Desha was pulled over on U.S. Route 224 for a traffic stop. He was charged when police found a loaded 9 mm handgun and three loaded magazines inside his car. Police also found suspected drug residue and contraband.
