Parma: Gas meters damaged, stores evacuated at Kentown

PARMA -- About 3:30 p.m. Monday, police officers responded to the Kentown Plaza, located just southeast of the intersection of W. Pleasant Valley and York roads for a report of an accident that occurred in the parking lot of the plaza.

Officers on the scene indicated that the driver of a Family Dollar semi-truck pulled into the Kentown Plaza and went southbound in an attempt to go behind the plaza.

The semi-truck hit a set of utility wires, causing an adjacent utility pole to fall over and strike the roof of Marsella's Pizza which faces York Road.

Four gas meters were also damaged as result of the accident. Nearby businesses were evacuated.

All of the businesses in the Kentown Plaza, along with nearby businesses Marsella's Pizza and Rito's Bakery, have no electrical power.

Crews from FirstEnergy and Columbia Gas immediately responded to the scene and are working to repair the damaged utilities.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation and it is anticipated that the driver of the semi-truck will be cited after consultation with prosecutors.
