Police cars collide, officers injured

CLEVELAND -- Two Cleveland police cruisers collided near East 136th Street and Eaglesmere Avenue Tuesday night, sending one crashing into the porch of a house.

The crash happened while police were responding to an emergency call around 8:30 p.m.

Three officers were hurt in the accident. All were treated and released from MetroHealth Medical Center.

Police say one car was heading south on East 136th and the other was heading west on Eaglesmere when they collided. One cruiser was responding to a shooting down the street, and the other was chasing at least one possibly armed suspect.

There are no reports of nonpolice vehicles being involved.

No civilians were hurt.

Witnesses told Channel 3 the police cars did not have their lights and sirens on, but Sgt. Ali Pillow, police spokesman, said the department will not be able to speak to that mater until its investigation is complete. That is expected to take one to two weeks.
