CLEVELAND - A Cleveland Heights man faces aggravated murder charges for fatally shooting Sunny Ravi Patel, 15, while robbing a Cleveland Heights Mr. Hero shop, according to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty.
Just before 8 p.m. Oct. 14, Daveion Perry, 20, shot and killed Sunny Ravi Patel at the Mr. Hero restaurant on Taylor Road near Cain Park in Cleveland Heights. Patel was helping out at the restaurant, which is owned by his aunt and uncle.
A Cuyahoga County Grand Jury indicted Perry on one count of aggravated murder, two counts of felonious assault, five counts of aggravated robbery, four counts of kidnapping and one count each of breaking and entering, tampering with evidence and obstructing official business.
According to court records, Perry entered a plea of guilty to burglary on Sept. 20 for breaking into an apartment on Renrock Road in Cleveland Heights. Until his arrest by Cleveland Heights Police Sunday night, he had been free awaiting sentencing in that case.
The murder case will be assigned to Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert McClelland who also presided over the defendant's burglary case.
The night of Oct. 15, the prosecutor states that Perry held up a Subway restaurant on Cedar Road in University Heights at gunpoint. The prosecutor added that, on Sunday, October 16, Perry robbed a Dollar General store on Lee Road in Cleveland Heights.
Cleveland Heights Police officers spotted Perry as he ran from the Lee Road store and caught him after a brief chase during which he waved his gun at police officers and then broke into an Overlook Road garage.
