East Cleveland: Interim police chief named

EAST CLEVELAND -- City officials confirm that East Cleveland Police Chief Ralph Spotts retired Friday and Detective Commander Mike Cardilli was named interim police chief.

Cardilli has been on the East Cleveland police force for 15 years.

He started as a patrolman, then was promoted to sergeant, then lieutenant.

He went on to become the commander of patrol officers and then commander of the detective bureau.

He grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Lakeland Community College.

To become permanent police chief, he has to go through the civil service process and take a test.
